Personal animosity in business – good, bad and the ugly

Economist has an excellent article on the personal animosity in Silicon Valley and how it is shaping the technology industry. The article brings up the point that the people with outsized commercial acumen and success tend to have outsize personalities. The same passion that drives them to create something from nothing drives them to crush anybody who get in their way.Â

Often personal animosities, especially internal ones, are harmful to business. They could cloud the vision and strategy of the organization. But sometimes the same animosity could sharpen the focus and intellect of the driven personalities and make them achieve something new.  If one is in involved in such grudge matches, it will be good take a step back and think how healthy the animosity is, personally and professionally.
