Google's Portal for India elections

The single minded vision of Google is to democratize the information in the world. Every person on this earth should have access to all available public information, no matter where they are.

What better way to prove this than this Google initiative in the largest democracy in the world, India. Google search page for Indian elections is the first of its kind in India.

The portal gives complete information about individual constituencies and the MPs in power. I did a search for my home constituency in India, Vijayawada. I could get data on the development statistics (such as literacy ratio etc) in 2004 and in 2008 (last government’s tenure), name and profile of the Member of Parliament in my city, Number of questions asked by MP in the parliament, attendance % in parliament, criminal record and much more.

Kudos to Hindustan Times and Google for a great initiative.
