Jobs and Apple

its been a long holiday on the blog…either the work is hectic or i am lazy…….

> Steve jobs is at it again.. He is trying to position Apple as a consumer electronics company. An exercise at which Apple miserably failed in 1980s bringing Apple to the brink of collapse. (read Pepsi to Apple.. John Sculley)

But I personally feel Apple is on a better ground this time around….because of these simple yet powerful changes..

1) PCs are getting all the more powerful and ubiquitous, enabling consumers to run mutlimedia functions better than ever before..

2) everything is getting digitalized.. that means PC is on a better wicket than a TV or an Audio System…

3) Products like iPod are changing the association customers have in their mind about Apple as a niche PC maker.

4) Lets accept it.. Apple has some really elegant UI, packaging and SW capabilities. This makes them an instant favorite for style conscious consumers.. of course Apple always has this “Cult of Cool” brand image..

But all is not well..

1) I have so many times tried and failed connecting Mac to a projector…. I think Apple still closely guards interoperability standards. In that case where does the Mac fit in the vision of Networked home ?

2) TVs and audio systems are improving at a scorching pace.. today every SONY TV has an IP address. Display capabilities, be it plasma or flat tube, are improving dramatically..

Its interesting to watch where Apple will be when finally the convergence of computing and consumer electronics takes place in future…
