In theory any portal/company which solely relies on Internet Ad revenues will find it hard to survive unless it finds an alternative long term revenue growth driver. This is because as the content explodes on the net we spend less and less time on anything that distracts our attention.
I realized this is not true in Google’s case. The business model is unique with pinpoint advertising based on statistics.. Appealing to many advertisers.
Microsoft is already trying to do what it can to dislodge Google from the lucrative search engine market. The battle is worth watching..
> There is no dearth of ideas in the silicon valley. One of them that is particularly interesting is Dust inc. Their idea is tiny self sufficient sensors that can just be sprinkled in an area. The sensors can wirelessly communicate with one another and transmit data on temperature, vibrations, chemicals .. you name it..
Whats more the network can also communicate with any external network through a wireless access device. It is a cheap but effective way to monitor industrial equipment, buildings or enemy movements. The sensors also have an algorithm that self heals if some nodes or not working.

All the major players are committing large investments to promote 802.11. But the key growth driver for Wi-fi still remains easy mobility across heterogeneous networks.
